October 08, 2024
Ahmedabad: Amidst the ongoing Navratri celebrations, Ahmedabad’s police commissioner, G.S. Malik, has issued a notification prohibiting the entry of heavy vehicles into the city from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. the following day. This measure is intended to ease traffic congestion during Navratri and reduce road accidents caused by heavy vehicles.
The order, which came into effect on October 7, will remain valid until October 12, after which it will automatically renew.
It extends a previous ban on the entry of heavy vehicles and specifies that only light motor vehicles (LMVs) with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of up to 7,500 kg will be allowed in the city. Goods vehicles, passenger vehicles, and tractor-trolleys with a GVW exceeding 7,500 kg are prohibited during these hours.
Passenger vehicles and minibuses with a seating capacity of up to 33 passengers are allowed, while those with a higher capacity will not be permitted. The notification warns that violators will face prosecution under Section 223 of the BNS and Section 131 of the Gujarat Police Act. DeshGujarat
