October 17, 2024
Gandhinagar: The city police have nabbed two individuals from Jaipur in Rajasthan in connection with the two consecutive hoax bomb threats made to Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), located in the state capital.
The police tracked the accused with the help of cyber experts, and it has been learned that the purpose of the threats was to create fear among the public. Further investigation is ongoing. There are also reports that the accused individuals were associated with the university in the past; however, no official statement has been made by the police so far.
GNLU had received consecutive bomb threats via email from an unidentified source, prompting thorough searches across the campus with dog and bomb squads, but both threats turned out to be hoaxes.
The first threat was received on October 13, with an email stating that bombs had been planted across the GNLU campus and nearby PDPU. The email also claimed the sender was watching for any suspicious activities and identified themselves as a “member of the Taliban.”
A second email arrived the next day, October 14, warning that bomb bags remained hidden and further threats would be carried out by men stationed with grenades and sniper rifles.
The FIR, registered on October 14 at Infocity police station, booked unknown individuals under IPC section 351(4) for criminal intimidation and section 66D of the IT Act. Inspector V R Kher stated that Infocity police, along with LCB and cybercrime teams, are working to identify the source of the emails. DeshGujarat
