SIT formed to probe theft in 9 temples in Kutch

Kutch: In a mass theft case, thieves targeted nine temples in Chitrod village and nearby areas on Wednesday night, looting cash and valuables worth Rs. 97,000. Following the incident, the Superintendent of Police (Kutch East) visited the village on Friday and, considering the seriousness of the matter, formed a special investigative team (SIT) to probe the case.

The theft occurred on Wednesday night when thieves raided nine temples in Chitrod and surrounding areas, stealing valuables worth Rs. 97,000, including jewelry, chatras, and cash from donation boxes. After reports of theft from these nine temples, Gagodar Police Inspector Jayrajsinh M. Vala and his team responded promptly. Subsequently, Vasantbhai Gokalabhai Prajapati of Nutan Chitrod village lodged a formal complaint about the thefts.

SP Kutch East, Sagar Bagmar, visited the site on Friday and, due to the severity of the crime, established an SIT. The team, led by Bhachau Deputy SP Sagar Sambada, includes Gagodar in-charge P.I. J.M. Vala, LCB P.I. N.N. Chudasama, and Adesar P.I. D.G. Patel. Under the Deputy SP’s guidance, the SIT has begun investigations using CCTV footage, technical analysis, and local sources. In addition to forming the SIT, SP Bagmar considered the villagers’ distress and aimed to resolve the temple thefts in Chitrod within a week.
