November 15, 2024
Navsari: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat has arrested a police inspector for allegedly demanding and accepting an iPhone worth ₹1.4 lakh as a bribe.
The complainant, a light diesel oil seller catering to boat owners at Dholai Bandar in Navsari, was instructed by the accused to visit the police station with his original license. During the visit, the accused, Police Inspector Dinesh Kubawat (Class-2), posted at the Marine Police Station, allegedly demanded a newly launched Apple iPhone as a bribe, threatening that failure to comply would disrupt the complainant’s business operations.
Unwilling to meet the demand, the complainant filed a complaint with the ACB. Acting on that complaint, the ACB team set up a trap and caught the accused police inspector red-handed while accepting the iPhone, valued at ₹1,44,900. The case is under investigation, and further action will be taken based on the findings.
