Delhi: The Gujarat Co-Operative Milk Marketing Federation, which is commonly known by its brand name and well-known registered trademark “AMUL, learnt that certain dehydrated products, garlic and onion, were deceptively sold in foreign markets under the name “Amul Dehydration,” a product that Amul has no involvement with. These products were manufactured by Aron Foods and Aarui Foods, subsidiaries of the Jalaram Group, with a registered office in Ahmedabad and a production unit on the Kodinar Highway, Una, Gir-Somnath.

GCMMF, through its advocate Abhishek Singh, had filed a lawsuit for trademark infringement before the Delhi High Court, and on November 19, 2024, the court issued an injunction restraining the companies from using “AMUL” in their trade name, manufacturing, selling, or exporting goods under the brand.

On November 30, 2024, local commissioners appointed by the court conducted raids and found that the company had been misleading consumers by using an outdated manufacturing unit address on its export packaging. The manufacturing unit had been closed for many years and had since been relocated to new premises in the Mahuva district.

The order passed by the Delhi High Court on 19th November 2024 has protected the rights of the largest farmer-owned cooperative, ‘AMUL.’ DeshGujarat
