Complaint against Tankara PI, head constable for ₹51 lakh extortion in fake gambling case

Morbi: The former Police Inspector of Tankara Police Station, Y.K. Gohil, has been accused of implicating several individuals, including prominent Rajkot jeweler Bhaskar Parekh, in a fabricated gambling case involving ₹63 lakh and embezzling ₹51 lakh. A case has been registered against Gohil and Head Constable Mahipatsinh Solanki by the Morbi police.

The matter came to light during a probe carried out by the State Monitoring Cell (SMC). The SMC team conducted an investigation at Comfort Resort on the Morbi-Rajkot highway, where the alleged raid took place on October 26, 2024, at around 11:15 PM. The accused, including Bhaskar Parekh, Vimal Padria, Raghuvir Singh, Kuldeep Singh, and others, were allegedly found gambling in Room 105. During the raid, PI Gohil and Head Constable Solanki confiscated ₹63 lakh, including a Fortuner car (registration number GJ-03-KC-1400). They filed a case and presented it to the court as legitimate.

The SMC’s investigation revealed shocking details: PI Gohil and Head Constable Solanki extorted ₹51 lakh from the accused in exchange for favors, such as withholding their photographs and false names from the media, not seizing their phones, refraining from physical assault, concealing details of the case, and providing special privileges in custody.

Following the SMC’s investigation, a case has been registered against PI Y.K. Gohil and Head Constable Mahipatsinh Solanki under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act for embezzling ₹51 lakh. Both officers have been suspended, with Gohil transferred to Aravalli and Solanki to Dahod. DeshGujarat
