Hold-up in some Gujarat sections delays Delhi-Mumbai Expressway completion; likely opening in 2027
February 14, 2025
New Delhi: The completion of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, which was initially scheduled for October 2024, is now likely to be delayed by around two years.
According to a report, the delay is due to the incomplete construction of six sections of the expressway, including three packages in Gujarat covering a total of 87 km.
It is learned that one 35-km stretch has seen no progress, while work on the other two sections stands at 7% and 35%, respectively.
The 1,386-km-long, eight-lane Delhi-Mumbai Expressway was divided into 53 construction packages and was originally slated for completion by March 2024. However, the deadline was later revised to October 2025. Recently, MoS for Road Transport Harsh Malhotra indicated that the expressway might not be completed until 2026.
Reports suggest that it typically takes around two years to complete a highway section. Given the pending work on these three stretches, some parts of the expressway in Gujarat may not be ready until February 2027.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari reviewed the project’s progress on Tuesday, urging NHAI and ministry officials to expedite the construction. DeshGujarat
