February 23, 2025
Gandhinagar: The main opposition Congress party will hold its All India Congress Committee (AICC) session in Gujarat on the 8th and 9th of April 2025. The party made an official announcement regarding this through a press statement by KC Venugopal, General Secretary of AICC.
The statement reads, ‘The gathering will bring together AICC delegates from across the nation to deliberate on the challenges posed by the anti-people policies and the relentless attack on the Constitution and its values by the BJP, while charting the party’s future course of action.’
‘The session will commence on 8th April with an Extended Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting, followed by the AICC Delegates’ meeting on 9th April. Hon’ble Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge will preside over both meetings, which will be attended by Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi ji, Leader of Opposition (Lok Sabha) Shri Rahul Gandhi ji, all Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled states, national office bearers, senior party leaders, and other AICC delegates.’
‘This AICC session is being convened as a continuation of the resolutions adopted at the Belagavi Extended CWC meeting (Nava Satyagraha Baithak), which commemorated the 100th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s presidency at the 1924 INC session.’
‘Recognizing the urgent need to preserve, protect, and promote the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, and the Constitution, it was decided that between 26th January 2025 and 26th January 2026, the Indian National Congress will launch a massive, nationwide public outreach campaign called the Samvidhan Bachao Rashtriya Padayatra, along with an AICC session in Gujarat, the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi, reaffirming our commitment to his ideals of truth, non-violence, and justice.’
‘The upcoming session will serve not only as a platform for crucial deliberations but also as a reaffirmation of the Congress Party’s collective resolve to address the concerns of the common people and present a strong alternative vision for the nation.’
As per an official statement, expressing gratitude to the top leadership of the Congress Party for hosting the event on the land of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Saheb, Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Shri Shaktisinh Gohil announced that more than 3,000 delegates from across the country will participate in the event.
“Two historic Congress Party conventions have previously been held in Gujarat. The 51st convention in 1938 took place in Haripura, Bardoli, under the supervision of the then State President, Shri Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, where Subhash Chandra Bose was elected as the National President. The concept of the Planning Commission, introduced by Bose at the Haripura Convention, was later implemented by India’s first Prime Minister, Shri Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. Seven paintings by renowned artist Nandalal Bose were also presented at the convention, and these artworks are now displayed at the new National Office of the Congress Party in Delhi, Indira Bhavan.” Gohil added
The GPCC chief also stated that “The 66th Congress Party Convention in 1961 was held in Bhavnagar under the chairmanship of Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy, with top Congress leaders, including Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, attending the session. Other prominent leaders such as Y. B. Chavan, Giani Zail Singh, and Shravan Singh were also present. In the upcoming convention, discussions will focus on the continuous attacks on the Constitution and its values, as well as the BJP’s anti-people policies. The party will also outline its future course of action based on these deliberations.” DeshGujarat
