March 01, 2025
Gandhinagar: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat today nabbed a State Tax Officer, a Class-2 officer, in a bribery case involving ₹10,000 in Gandhinagar.
According to the ACB, the complainant’s business was subject to GST. To change the office address, update the HSN code, and modify the purpose of the business without issuing a memo, the accused, Surendrasinh Harisinh Purohit, a State Tax Officer (Class-2) at the Assistant State Tax Commissioner’s Office, located at Old Secretariat, initially demanded ₹50,000. After negotiations, the bribe was settled at ₹15,000, out of which ₹5,000 was taken as an advance, with the remaining ₹10,000 to be paid later.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB, which set up a trap. During the sting operation, the accused accepted the bribe money in a planned exchange and was caught red-handed on the spot. DeshGujarat
