How’s Ahmedabad Civil Medicity Expansion Project progressing? What’s next? Minister shares details

Gandhinagar: In response to a question in the State Assembly regarding the new construction of the Infectious Disease Hospital at the Ahmedabad Civil Medicity Campus, Health Minister Rushikesh Patel stated that plans have been made to demolish the old indoor block ward, blocks A to D, and the old buildings of the Old Trauma Center. In their place, a new OPD, a 900-bed general hospital, and a 500-bed hospital for infectious disease patients will be constructed.

Minister further stated that an estimated total administrative approval of Rs. 588 crore has been granted for this project. Out of this, a total budget provision of Rs. 236.50 crore has been allocated in phases over the past four years.

The new 500-bed infectious disease hospital and 900-bed general hospital will include 300 ICU beds. Additionally, special rooms and VIP rooms will be available, bringing the total hospital capacity to 2,018 beds.

This approximately ten-story under-construction hospital will feature a parking capacity of 555 four-wheelers and 1,000 two-wheelers, a separate OPD for infectious diseases, an operation theater, and 115 beds. Among these, 15 will be designated for TB ICU, 32 for infectious ICU (out of the total 300 ICU beds), and 60 as isolation rooms.

The hospital will provide treatment for various infectious diseases, including pneumonia, sepsis, endemic cholera, HIV, typhoid (types A and E), influenza (swine flu), rabies, COVID-19, Japanese encephalitis, tuberculosis, and severe infectious diseases such as Congo fever, Ebola, Zika virus, and yellow fever. It will also treat vector-borne diseases like malaria, parasitic infections such as dengue, and fungal infections like mucormycosis, aspergillosis, and histoplasmosis, as well as infections caused by drug-resistant bacteria and viruses.

It is worth mentioning that under the Civil Medicity master plan and budget, a total of 35 projects worth Rs. 2,590 crore have been completed, while three projects worth Rs. 131 crore are currently in progress. Additionally, projects worth Rs. 739 crore are about to commence. Thus, as part of the ongoing Civil Medicity development, state-of-the-art services and facilities are being provided at a total estimated cost of Rs. 3,460 crore, Minister Rushikesh Patel added.
