What are the rules to travel with Pet Dogs / Cats in Indian Railways ?

Surat: For pet lovers who wish to travel with their furry companions, Indian Railways offers dedicated provisions to ensure a hassle-free journey. Passengers can book dogs in designated dog boxes with the train guard, subject to availability, which can be confirmed at parcel offices. Smaller pets, such as puppies and kittens in baskets, can accompany their owners after paying the standard booking charges.
As per the rules, passengers traveling in First AC can bring their pets along, provided they book an entire four-berth cabin or two-berth coupe under a single PNR. Requests for such bookings can be made at the Divisional Railway Manager’s or General Manager’s office, where due consideration is given.
According to IRCTC, here are the key points regarding the booking of pet dogs and cats in passenger trains:
1. Booking of dogs can be done in the dog boxes with the guard, subject to availability. Such dog boxes are available in many trains. The availability of dog box in a train can be enquired from concerned Parcel office.
2. Puppies/ kittens which can be carried in a basket can be carried by owners in any class after payment of usual booking charges.
3. Dogs/ cats accompanied by owners can be carried in 1st AC when entire four berth cabin or 2 berth coupe is booked by such passengers on a single PNR on payment of usual booking charges.
4. The request for allotment of such 4 berth cabin or 2 berth coupe can be made in the divisional railway manager office or General Manager office. Due consideration is given to such requests while allotting the cabin or coupe. DeshGujarat
