54 whale sharks rescued off Gujarat coast in two years

Gandhinagar: The state government has implemented a scheme for the conservation of whale sharks found along the Gujarat coast. As part of this scheme, 54 whale sharks have been rescued in the last two years, 2023 and 2024, the Minister of Forest and Environment informed the Gujarat Assembly today.
In response to a question, the minister stated that the “Whale Shark Conservation Scheme” has been in effect since December 21, 2006. Under this scheme, the number of whale sharks rescued in the past two years and the compensation provided to fishermen for losses incurred during the rescue are as follows:
