Centre approves Rs. 705 crore Idar – Badoli bypass in North Gujarat
March 28, 2025
Gandhinagar: The Government of India today announced its approval for the Rs. 705 crore construction of a four-lane road along the Idar – Badoli bypass in North Gujarat.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in a tweet informed, “In Gujarat, we have approved ₹705.09 crore for the construction of a 4-lane road with paved shoulders along the Idar–Badoli bypass (14.2 km) on NH-168G in Sabarkantha district.”
He further stated, “NH-168G originates near Mehsana from NH-68, passing through Visnagar, Vadnagar, Kheralu, Idar, Badoli, and Bhiloda before terminating at NH-48 near Shamlaji, close to the Rajasthan border.”
He said, “The existing stretch, which runs through Idar town, frequently experiences congestion due to limited right of way (RoW) and heavy traffic. Idar also serves as a key transit node for vehicles travelling to Ambaji, Mehsana, and Shamlaji. To address these issues, the road will be upgraded to a 4-lane configuration with paved shoulders, flexible pavement, grade-separated structures, and protective works, ensuring improved safety and smoother traffic flow.”
Reacting to this announcement, the Gujarat chief minister, in a tweet, thanked the government and said this upgrade will decongest traffic in Idar, enhance connectivity to Ambaji and Rajasthan, and ensure safer, faster travel.
Bypass to Feature 2 Major Bridges, 1 ROB, and 4 Vehicle Underpasses
The bypass on National Highway-168G will commence from Maniyor, diverting traffic away from Idar city and seamlessly connecting to the Shamlaji Highway beyond Badoli Junction. Spanning 14.2 kilometres, the bypass will traverse key locations, including Sapawada, Laloda, Savgadh Cantonment, Budhiya, and Vansdol, before reaching Badoli. As part of its construction, the project will feature two major bridges, one minor bridge, one Railway Over Bridge (ROB), and four Vehicle Underpasses (VUPs), ensuring enhanced connectivity, safety, and smoother traffic flow.
Construction of NH-168G in Three Packages
The construction of the four-lane/two-lane National Highway-168G from Mehsana to Shamlaji is progressing in three phases, with work underway at various stages. The Idar-Badoli bypass has been approved as part of the second phase. DeshGujarat
