Ahmedabad: In a tragic accident, a Mahindra XUV crashed into a stationary bus in the Chandkheda area of the city around 7:35 am today. The Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) bus, number TCM 41, was halted at the Chandkheda bus stand to pick up passengers when the XUV rammed into it from behind at high speed. The impact killed the passenger sitting next to the car driver, while the driver and several bus passengers sustained injuries.
The collision was so powerful that the bus was pushed forward several feet. Authorities also found a broken liquor bottle inside the car, raising suspicions of drunk driving.
Fire brigade personnel used cutters to rescue the surviving passenger trapped in the wreckage. The injured were rushed to the hospital, where the front-seat passenger of the XUV succumbed to his injuries.
According to the police, a case may be registered for liquor possession, and blood samples of the deceased and injured will be tested to determine intoxication levels. Ahmedabad Fire Brigade Divisional Fire Officer Pankaj Rawal stated that 20 fire brigade personnel from Chandkheda and Sabarmati fire stations were deployed for the rescue operation. They used advanced hydraulic and electric cutters to carefully extract the trapped passenger without damaging the CNG gas cylinder at the back of the bus.
The vehicles were later separated using ropes, and the accident site was cleared. The car driver, who sustained injuries, is undergoing treatment, while other bus passengers, including a young girl, suffered minor injuries. Investigations into the accident are ongoing. Deshgujarat
