IMA urges Gujarat health minister to resolve cardiologists’ PM-JAY concerns
April 10, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat chapter of the Indian Medical Association (GSB-IMA) has written to state health minister Rushikesh Patel, highlighting the challenges faced by cardiologists under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (PM-JAY). Since April 1, many cardiologists across the state have stopped admitting patients under the scheme, citing unresolved concerns.
In the letter, the IMA emphasized the urgent need to revise cardiac procedure rates to ensure financial viability. Key concerns include the mandatory presence of a full-time cardiothoracic vascular surgeon (CTVS) for elective angioplasty, lack of reimbursement for high-risk or emergency procedures, non-payment for intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) use, and reduced compensation for multiple procedures.
The association also urged implementation of the HBP 2.2 manual for incentive calculations. The letter pointed out significant price cuts in angiography procedures—27.5% for one stent, 39% for two, and 45% for three—making the treatments unsustainable in Gujarat, especially as other states offer more comprehensive packages.
It is noteworthy that during the recently held 12th Governing Body meeting of the PMJAY-MAA Scheme, the minister had stated that the Executive Committee’s decision on the pricing of stents used in angioplasty has been deferred for now. A final decision will be taken after detailed discussions and further evaluation. — DeshGujarat
