Passenger held at Ahmedabad airport with ₹16 lakh worth of gold hidden in almond packet
April 17, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Customs authorities at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in the city seized around 167.100 grams of gold worth ₹16 lakh from a passenger who arrived from Kuwait. The passenger in a smuggling attempt had concealed the gold bar inside a packet of almonds wrapped in a yellow plastic pouch.
With the rising price of gold, smuggling attempts have increased significantly. Passengers returning from Gulf countries often try to bring 24-carat gold and adopt various tricks to avoid customs duty. During a routine check on Wednesday morning of passengers arriving via flight 6E 1244 from Kuwait, the Air Intelligence Unit officials intercepted one suspicious passenger. Upon scanning and thorough inspection of his luggage, hidden gold cut bars were found concealed in an almond packet wrapped in polythene and seized under customs regulations. DeshGujarat
