Congress to fight Visavadar, Kadi bypolls on its own: Shaktisinh Gohil
April 18, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Congress has decided to fight the upcoming bypolls for Visavadar and Kadi Assembly seats on its own, without any alliance with their INDI Alliance party, Aam Aadmi Party.
Mukul Wasnik, the national general secretary and organizational in-charge of Congress, today held a meeting with the Political Affairs Committee. During this meeting, it was decided that Congress would contest the upcoming by-elections in Visavadar and Kadi independently.
Announcing the decision, Gujarat Congress Chief Shaktisinh Gohil said, “As we had to make a decision at the state level, the meeting of the Political Affairs Committee was held today. After a detailed discussion and keeping the past history in mind, a unanimous opinion was reached that Gujarat’s voters never give votes to a third front.”
“In the past, the Left, Samajwadi Party, and even Shankarsinh Vaghela, who was in government, tried, but only four MLAs were elected. I was told by Chimanbhai Patel when he tried forming his own party, but Gujarat’s people have never voted for a third party. That is why he declined to merge with Congress.”
“Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) broke 11% of votes, causing major damage to the Congress Party, but the Gujarati voters gave more votes to Congress. The main opposition party has always been Congress. After a thorough discussion, Congress has decided, in the interest of the Gujarati people, to contest the elections in Visavadar and Kadi independently and strongly under its own symbol to win. And I request the Gujaratis to make Congress candidates win and, in 2027, bless us by making our government stronger.”
The meeting of the Political Affairs Committee was held at the Shahibaug Circuit House under the chairmanship of Gujarat Congress in-charge Mukul Wasnik. It was attended by State President Gohil, Leader of the Opposition Amit Chavda, former State President Jagdish Thakor, Siddharth Patel, Bharat Singh Solanki, MLA Jignesh Mevani, Shailesh Parmar, and other leaders. Discussions were also held regarding the appointment of district presidents, which will be finalized by May 31. DeshGujarat
