Mercury rises again in Gujarat; Rajkot sizzles at 42°C, Ahmedabad and Vadodara above 40°C

Ahmedabad: After a brief one-day relief, the mercury rose again in the city and other parts of Gujarat on Monday, with Rajkot topping the chart at 42.0°C. Among the hottest spots were Amreli, which recorded 41.6°C, Surendranagar at 41.2°C, and Bhuj at 41.1°C. Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Vadodara also faced intense heat, with temperatures hovering around 40.0°C to 40.7°C.
According to the India Meteorological Department, a gradual rise of 2–3°C in maximum temperatures is expected over the next three days. From April 21 to 25, maximum temperatures are likely to remain in the 40–43°C range across the Gujarat region and Saurashtra-Kutch. While no official heatwave warning has been issued, hot and humid conditions are expected to cause discomfort in coastal areas of South Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch between April 22 and 24.
