Huge rush of passengers at Udhna Railway Station in Surat ahead of summer vacations

Surat: With the vacation season approaching, a large number of migrant passengers heading home have crowded the railway stations in the city. A huge rush of passengers was seen in long queues at Udhna Railway Station on Sunday, trying to get train tickets and board the trains. Many passengers complained that despite standing in line for four to five hours, they were unable to secure tickets. It is learnt that there was around a 1.5 km long queue for general tickets at the station.

Every year, during vacation periods, the number of migrant workers traveling to North India, especially to UP and Bihar, from Surat and Udhna railway stations increases. The crowded scenes seen during Diwali and Holi were observed again at Udhna railway station on Sunday. Thousands of migrant passengers gathered at the station to travel home, boarding trains like the Udhna Jayanagar, Tapti Ganga, and Antyodaya Express.

Along with migrant passengers, a considerable number of other passengers were also present at the station, leading to the deployment of additional railway police forces to manage the swelling crowd. Some passengers criticized the administration for the lack of proper arrangements. They said they were unable to get tickets after waiting for hours, and some expressed frustration that ticket counters were closed, further compounding the problem. DeshGujarat
