98-Year-Old Building of GG Hospital Jamnagar to Be Razed for New 9-Storey Facility
May 01, 2025
Jamnagar: The 98-year-old building of Guru Gobindsinghji Hospital, constructed in 1927, is set to be demolished to make way for a new 9-storey modern facility. This new structure, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, will be built at a cost of Rs. 525 crore. The expansion will increase the hospital’s bed capacity from 1,770 to 2,130, ensuring enhanced healthcare services. The demolition work is expected to begin in the next month or so.
Hospital Superintendent Dr. Deepak Tiwari stated that the state government aims to modernize and improve healthcare services. In line with this policy, a detailed plan has been developed to facilitate the relocation of all departments from the old building, including OPDs, wards, medicine, case rooms, X-ray, sonography, and other departments. This plan guarantees that no department will be closed during the relocation process, preventing any disruption in services for patients and their relatives. Additionally, the old Gynecology Department building at the back of the hospital will also be demolished. A new ground-plus-one-story building will be constructed on a vacant plot on Himmatnagar Road, where the old records office is located. Once the new building is complete, the old structure will be torn down.
The buildings connected to the old structure, such as the Trauma Center, Medical Emergency, and the 200-bed Pediatric Department, have already been newly constructed. As a result, these areas will not require demolition or relocation.
New 9-Storey Building Features
The new 9-storey building will include several key facilities, such as one CT scan and one MRI machine, a trauma center, pediatric ICU, surgery, eye, ENT, and orthopedic OPDs. Additionally, operation theaters for eye, ENT, general, and orthopedic departments will be built. The bed capacity of the hospital will increase from 1,770 to 2,130, and the building will feature 26 lifts for doctors, staff, and the public. Modern fire safety systems and a large ramp for emergency exits will also be installed. Parking spaces will be available both at the front and the back of the hospital.
