Ahmedabad: Recently, the first round of admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act was conducted, and during this process, Anand Niketan School in Maninagar allegedly charged parents ₹69,000 for mandatory food and transportation services for newly admitted students. In response, parents filed a complaint, prompting the District Education Officer (DEO) to issue a notice to the school, demanding an explanation within 24 hours.
At Anand Niketan School in Maninagar, new students from economically weaker backgrounds were granted admission to Class 1 under the RTE Act. Following the admission, the school requested parents to pay ₹69,000 for food and transportation services. The school clearly stated that admission would only be confirmed once the payment was made. Parents then filed a complaint with the DEO.
DEO Rohit Chaudhary stated that schools are not allowed to charge any mandatory fees for food or transportation. After receiving the complaint, the DEO issued a notice to Anand Niketan School, instructing them to provide an explanation within one day. Further action will be taken based on the school’s response.
