Mumbai–Gandhinagar Vande Bharat Express to have more coaches, more seats

Mumbai: In a significant move to enhance passenger convenience, Western Railway is set to add four additional AC Chair Car coaches to the 20901/02 Mumbai Central–Gandhinagar Capital Vande Bharat Express.

Until now, the train had 16 coaches, including 2 Executive Chair Cars and 14 AC Chair Cars. With the addition, the total number of coaches will increase to 20. This will raise the seating capacity from 1,128 to 1,440, allowing more passengers to enjoy a comfortable journey.

According to railway officials, the decision was taken after observing consistently high occupancy rates and anticipating more future travel demand on this popular route. The increased capacity will offer more confirmed seats, making travel more convenient and efficient for a larger number of commuters.

No official date has been announced for the addition of the coaches, but the semi-high-speed train is expected to operate with 20 coaches by next week.

Currently, the 16-coach Vande Bharat Express comprises 2 Executive Chair Cars (EC) with a total of 104 seats and 14 AC Chair Cars (CC) with 1,024 seats, totaling 1,128 seats. With the addition of four AC Chair Cars, the total seating capacity will increase to 1,440.

“There is a huge demand for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Vande Bharat Express. Considering the increasing number of passengers, Western Railway is planning to add four coaches to the 20901/02 Mumbai Central–Gandhinagar Vande Bharat Express to enhance travel convenience,” said Vineet Abhishek, PRO, Western Railway.
