Surat: A disturbing video from the emergency ward of New Civil Hospital in Surat has gone viral, showing a patient writhing in pain at night while on-duty doctors allegedly relaxed or were occupied with their mobile phones instead of providing timely treatment. The video, reportedly recorded by a family member, has triggered outrage and prompted hospital authorities to initiate a probe and begin recording statements from the staff involved.
The incident reportedly took place around 3 am two days ago, when a young man suffering from severe abdominal pain was brought to the emergency unit. Despite his condition, he allegedly received no immediate treatment. The video shows the patient crying out in pain on a stretcher while doctors and nursing staff appeared to be relaxing in their chairs and using their mobile phones instead of attending to him.
The situation escalated further when security personnel tried to stop the family member from filming the incident rather than assisting with the patient’s care. One security staffer even attempted to snatch the phone and was heard saying, “Record as much as you want and give it to whoever you want.” Even during the filming, no treatment was reportedly provided to the patient.
With the video being widely circulated in the media, a formal inquiry has been initiated. Statements are being recorded from the doctors, nursing staff, and other personnel present at the trauma center, and further action will be taken based on the findings.
A senior medical officer from Surat Civil Hospital stated that statements have been collected from trauma center doctors, nursing staff, and the CMO regarding the viral video. The patient initially complained of abdominal pain, although the video suggests he also mentioned back pain. After reviewing all statements and CCTV footage, it was found that the patient had walked into the emergency ward and received treatment within ten minutes. At the time of his arrival, the doctors from the relevant department were reportedly attending to another emergency case. However, all doctors have since been issued necessary instructions, and the security staff has also been reprimanded. DeshGujarat
