Ahmedabad Metro services on East-West corridor disrupted, restored later

Ahmedabad: The metro rail service on the Thaltej to Vastral route came to a standstill this morning after a cable theft on the route. Later, the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) replaced the stolen cables, and full service was restored before 2 PM.

In an official statement, the GMRC said, “In the East-West corridor of Ahmedabad Metro, the train services were affected in the morning between Apparel Park to Old High Court due to theft of cables last night between Shahpur to Old High Court Section. However, train services were available between Vastral Gam to Apparel Park and between Old High Court to Thaltej Gam stations. There was no effect in regular train services in North-South Corridor.”

“GMRCL staff with the help of Ahmedabad Police and other contracting agencies has worked on war footing and restored the affected section by replacing the cables at 13:26 hrs and regular train services were restored at 13:37 hrs on East-West corridor as per regular train operation schedules.
GMRC regrets the inconvenience caused to the commuters,” the statement added.

Due to this disruption, commuters traveling from Vastral to areas like Thaltej, SG Highway, and the city’s core zones were affected during morning hours. Passengers from eastern Ahmedabad had to rely on private vehicles, buses, or rickshaws due to the unavailability of metro services. DeshGujarat
