Ahmedabad: Train services on Ahmedabad Metro’s East-West corridor between Apparel Park and Old High Court were disrupted Thursday morning due to the theft of copper cables. Services on the affected section were restored by afternoon after the stolen cables were replaced.
An FIR was filed at Shahpur police station under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita regarding the theft of approximately 500 meters of copper cable, valued at around Rs 9 lakh.
According to the FIR, the theft occurred between 5:30 am and 6:15 am on Thursday. An unidentified individual climbed the steel bridge between Shahpur and Old High Court stations and cut the power supply cables using a sharp tool. Police officials said the investigation is ongoing, with suspicions that the culprit possesses technical expertise.
The complaint was filed by Ganesh Pathuraddi, a 39-year-old section engineer of GMRC. He stated that while the 5:45 am train service completed its journey, the next train scheduled at 6:15 am was halted at Shahpur station. Upon arriving there, Pathuraddi found that the cables laid on the steel bridge had been severed. The investigation revealed that copper cables attached to the brackets were stolen. The thieves took 20 copper cables, each about 25 meters long, totaling nearly 500 meters. With copper valued at around Rs 1,800 per meter, the total loss is estimated at approximately Rs 9 lakh.
