175 Pharma MoUs Implemented Out of 370 Signed at Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024: Govt

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government today announced that the state currently contributes 33 percent to the country’s total pharmaceutical production.

In an official press release, the government stated that during the 2024 Vibrant Gujarat Summit, a total of 376 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth an estimated ₹30,000 crore were signed in the pharmaceutical sector. Of these, 175 MoUs have already been successfully implemented on the ground, while another 153 are in advanced stages of completion.

According to the release, these investments have led to an estimated total inflow of ₹11,114.13 crore into the state’s pharmaceutical sector. As a direct outcome of these projects, around 20,141 people have gained employment in Gujarat.

Several notable foreign companies have contributed to this growth. Senador Laboratories Pvt. Ltd. from Spain has invested ₹2,500 crore to set up operations that have made it the largest producer of contraceptive drugs in the world, providing jobs to 500 people. Amneal Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. from the United States has invested ₹700 crore in injectable medicines, also creating 500 jobs. Japan’s Sysmex India Pvt. Ltd. has invested ₹210 crore in medical device manufacturing, employing 70 people.

In addition, Gujarat’s own Merril Group has invested ₹910 crore in medical device production, generating employment for 300 people. Vapi-based Swati Spentose Pvt. Ltd. has contributed ₹500 crore and created 300 jobs.

The state government also highlighted that medicines produced in Gujarat are now exported to nearly 200 countries around the world. Gujarat leads the nation in pharmaceutical exports, accounting for approximately 28 percent of India’s total.

Currently, Gujarat is home to about 5,850 licensed manufacturers engaged in the production of allopathic, ayurvedic, and homeopathic medicines, as well as medical devices and cosmetics. DeshGujarat
