AAP announce candidates for Kadi Assembly Bypolls in Gujarat
May 30, 2025
Kadi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today declared Jagdish Chavda as its candidate for the upcoming by-election in the Kadi assembly constituency of Mehsana district, Gujarat. Chavda currently serves as the chairman of the party’s Scheduled Caste wing in Gujarat. The announcement was made by the state party president, Isudan Gadhvi.
In another development, although no official announcement has been made by the main opposition party Congress, former MLA Ramesh Chavda is expected to file his nomination tomorrow on the Congress ticket. Chavda was elected as MLA in 2012 after the seat was reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates in 2009.
The by-elections for the Kadi and Visavadar assembly seats are scheduled for June 19. The Kadi seat became vacant following the death of BJP MLA Karshan Solanki, while the Visavadar seat in Saurashtra was vacated after sitting AAP MLA Bhupendra Bhayani resigned and later joined the BJP.
Meanwhile, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has not announced its candidate as of now. With the last date for filing nominations being June 2, local media reports suggest former MLA and Gujarati film actor Hitu Kanodia and singer Kajal Maheriya are the front runners for the BJP ticket.
The elections are set to take place on June 19, and the counting of votes will take place on June 23. DeshGujarat
