Rain Threatens IPL 2025 Final in Ahmedabad: What Happens If the Match Is Washed Out?
June 02, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Qualifier 2 between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings faced a post-toss delay due to rain at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Now, the IPL 2025 final, scheduled to take place on June 3 at the same venue, is also under a cloud of uncertainty, as the latest IMD forecast has heightened concerns among cricket fans.
As Mumbai Indians prepare to clash with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the finale at the Motera stadium, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rainfall in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. If the forecast proves accurate, it could be a déjà vu of 2023, when the IPL final was postponed due to heavy downpours.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Ahmedabad is among the districts where light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur at a few places on June 3.
What Happens If It Rains During the IPL 2025 Final?
If rainfall interrupts play on June 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, organizers have allowed a two-hour window to start the match later in the evening.
Is There a Reserve Day for the IPL 2025 Final?
Yes. If adverse weather persists and no play is possible on June 3—even with the extended window—a reserve day has been scheduled for June 4.
What If It Rains on the Reserve Day Too?
In the unfortunate event that rain washes out play on the reserve day as well, the team ranked higher in the league stage will be declared the IPL 2025 champions.
