Stray Dog Menace in Surat Society: Reportedly 100 Bitten in a Year

Surat: The menace of stray dogs has reached alarming levels in parts of Surat city. One such affected area is Balaji Krupa Society in the Palanpur Patiya locality, where residents are increasingly troubled by aggressive stray dogs.

According to the resident, visitors are hesitant to visit their homes, and even routine activities have become challenging due to the fear of dog attacks. Over the past one and a half years, more than 100 people in the society have reportedly been bitten. Women, children, and the elderly are particularly vulnerable, with many afraid to step outside their homes.

In protest, locals recently gathered outside the society gates, shouting slogans like “Get rid of dogs” to draw attention to the issue.

Balaji Krupa Society comprises three gates and houses around 133 families. Residents estimate there are about 10 to 12 stray dogs roaming the premises. Gate No. 3 is reportedly the worst affected. According to residents, the dogs there are especially aggressive, frequently biting strangers and visitors.

A local resident told the media that 30 to 40 complaints have been submitted to the municipal corporation and local corporators, but no action has been taken. “At Gate No. 3, three specific dogs attack anyone unfamiliar. Even maids have been bitten multiple times, and now some of them refuse to enter the society,” the resident said.

The situation has also affected social life. “When my aunt (Foi) came to visit my mother, she was bitten by a stray dog. Now, guests are hesitant to come over. Occasionally, when visitors do arrive, they wait outside the gate until we go out with sticks to escort them in safely,” added another resident.

Despite repeated complaints, no effective solution has been implemented, leaving residents frustrated and fearful. DeshGujarat
