Gujarat Congress Infighting Out in Public as Spokesperson Amit Nayak Offers Resignation on Facebook

Ahmedabad: In a fresh blow to Gujarat Congress, party spokesperson Amit Nayak on Wednesday announced his resignation, citing deep-rooted factionalism, leadership failure, and alleged ties between senior Congress leaders and the BJP. His exit comes just days after Rahul Gandhi flagged internal irregularities in Gujarat Congress’s organisational structure during an event in Madhya Pradesh.

Nayak, in a scathing open letter addressed to Rahul Gandhi and posted on Facebook, accused Ahmedabad City Congress President Himmatsinh Patel of maintaining political ties with former BJP Home Minister Pradipsinh Jadeja and enjoying five-star hospitality while travelling at the rival leader’s expense. He also alleged that Patel orchestrated false police complaints against him in the controversial ‘leaflet case’ to settle political scores.

In the letter, Nayak wrote, “How long will small-time workers risk their lives, businesses, and social standing to fiercely defend party ideology? And how long will corporate-style leaders who’ve mastered political profiteering continue to deceive the party leadership?”

“The time has come to seriously reflect on this. Those who raise genuine concerns should no longer be threatened in the name of discipline. If some clear, firm, and strict political rules are applied uniformly—from the lowest worker to the top state leadership—only then will Rahul Gandhi’s efforts succeed,” the letter adds.

Nayak’s letter further states that the Congress party may not even have data on when intellectuals—doctors, engineers, or technocrats—last joined the party. “But if those who are still around are being harassed and isolated while the old guard is merely shielded, how will new people develop trust in the leadership?”

“Hence, I respectfully request to be relieved of all posts and responsibilities within the Congress party. However, I will continue to attend public events as a dedicated primary member of the party,” said Nayak.

Meanwhile, the matter has further escalated, with both camps within the party circulating photos of each other’s alleged proximity to BJP leaders on social media. The deepening internal divide comes at a time when the Congress is attempting to rejuvenate its base in Gujarat ahead of the upcoming local elections. DeshGujarat
