ACB Gujarat nabs police constable in ₹1 lakh bribery case; 2 other cops absconding

Jamnagar: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat on Wednesday trapped a police constable red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹1,00,000 in Jamnagar. The trap was laid near Panchayat Cafe Restaurant on Jakatnaka Road, Samarpan Circle.

The complainant had approached the ACB after three police officials allegedly demanded a bribe in connection with a previously filed cheating complaint against him at the Udhyognagar Police Chowki under the City-C Division Police Station, Jamnagar.

According to ACB officials, the complainant was advised by accused Ravibhai Govindbhai Sharma, Unarmed Police Constable (33), SOG, Jamnagar, to meet two other officers, Dhambhai Batukbhai Mori, Police Constable (Writer), and R.D. Gohil, Police Sub-Inspector, both posted at Udhyognagar Police Chowki.

During the interactions, accused Mori demanded ₹50,000 to settle the matter and directed that the amount be paid to Sharma. Further, Sharma called the complainant to the police chowki and, in the presence of accused Gohil, demanded another ₹50,000 on behalf of Gohil — an arrangement to which Gohil allegedly agreed.

The complainant, unwilling to pay the bribe, filed a complaint with the ACB. Following this, the ACB team laid a trap on June 11. During the operation, Sharma was caught red-handed accepting the full bribe amount of ₹1,00,000. The ACB has stated that all three accused — Sharma, Mori, and Gohil — acted in connivance and misused their official positions to extort money.

While Sharma was apprehended at the scene, the other two accused were not present at the time and are currently absconding. Further investigation is underway. DeshGujarat
