Filmmaker missing after Ahmedabad plane crash; Family submits DNA sample
June 16, 2025
Ahmedabad: Filmmaker Mahesh Kalawadia, aka Jirawala, has been missing since the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad on June 12. Although he was neither aboard the ill-fated flight nor present inside the hostel where the aircraft crashed, Mahesh has not been seen since that afternoon. To the distress of his family, the last known location of Mahesh’s mobile phone was just 700 meters from the crash site.
According to his wife, Hetal, Mahesh had reportedly gone to Law Garden that day to meet someone. He called her at 1:14 pm to inform her that his meeting was over and he was heading home. However, he never returned, and shortly afterward, his phone was found to be switched off.
The Air India flight had taken off at 1:39 pm, and Mahesh’s phone went offline around 1:40 pm — just a minute later. His scooter and mobile phone have also not been found. As Mahesh remains untraceable, his family has submitted a DNA sample to authorities to help determine whether he may have been one of the victims who died on the ground.
Jirawala has worked as a producer and director in numerous Gujarati music videos, collaborating with well-known artists such as Jignesh Kaviraj, Kaushik Bharwad, and Kishan Rawal.
The devastating crash has sent shockwaves across the country. The Air India’s Boeing 787 aircraft crashed just moments after taking off from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12, crashing into the campus of a medical college in Meghaninagar. The accident resulted in the deaths of all 241 people on board and 29 individuals on the ground, making it one of the deadliest aviation disasters in recent history. DeshGujarat
