Rainfall subsides in Gujarat on Friday; only 4 talukas receive over an inch of downpour

Gandhinagar: Monsoon activity in Gujarat remained subdued today, with only four talukas recording more than an inch of rainfall between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m., according to data released by the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC), Gandhinagar.

The highest rainfall was reported in Petlad (Anand district) with 58 mm (2.28 inches), followed by Tarapur (Anand) at 50 mm (1.97 inches). Chuda (Surendranagar) received 35 mm (1.38 inches), while Anand taluka (Anand district) saw 31 mm (1.22 inches) of rainfall. Notably, the rain showers in all these talukas began only after 4 p.m., with major activity occurring post 6 p.m.

Other areas received moderate to light showers, with Karjan (Vadodara) logging 23 mm (0.91 inch), Borsad (Anand) 20 mm (0.79 inch), Anklav (Anand) 17 mm (0.67 inch), and Padra (Vadodara) 16 mm (0.63 inch).

Rainfall was scattered and brief in most parts of the state, with a majority of talukas reporting less than 10 mm of rain. Several districts, including Dahod, Surat, Dangs, and Kachchh, recorded rainfall below 5 mm, indicating a slowdown in monsoon intensity.

In total, only 59 talukas received rainfall today, compared to over 150 on Thursday and more than 200 on Wednesday.

The subsiding of rain is largely due to a temporary weakening of the monsoon system. However, forecasts suggest that rain activity may pick up again in the coming days across southern and central Gujarat. DeshGujarat
