Swarm of bees delays Indigo flight at Surat Airport by an hour

Surat: In a rare and unusual incident, a swarm of bees disrupted operations at Surat Airport this Tuesday afternoon, delaying an Indigo flight bound for Jaipur by nearly an hour.

The Indigo flight 6E, scheduled to depart at 4:20 pm, was preparing for take-off when a swarm of bees descended on the aircraft. The bees settled on the cargo door while the luggage was being loaded, causing panic among airport staff and halting operations. More bees continued to arrive, leading to a brief commotion on the tarmac.

Airport authorities initially used smoke to disperse the bees, but when that failed, the airport fire brigade was called in. Using high-pressure water jets, the fire team removed the swarm after nearly an hour of effort.

Due to the incident, the Surat–Jaipur flight finally took off at 5:26 pm, with passengers stranded inside the aircraft during the delay. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. This is believed to be the first incident of its kind at Surat Airport, raising questions about the impact of environmental factors on airport operations. DeshGujarat
