Three die of suffocation from generator smoke in Surat village

Surat: A tragic incident has occurred in Bhatha village of Surat, where three elderly individuals died due to suspected suffocation caused by generator fumes. According to preliminary reports, a generator left running in a closed room emitted smoke that filled the space, leading to the deaths of one man and two women.

The deceased have been identified as Balubhai Patel (77), Sitaben Patel (56), and Vedaben Patel (60). All three victims were sleeping in the same room during the night with the generator running. Later in the morning, when a family member opened the door and tried to wake them, they were found unresponsive. Police arrived at the scene shortly after being alerted.

Preliminary findings indicate that the room lacked ventilation, causing the generator smoke to accumulate and lead to suffocation. Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams have been called in to assist with the investigation, and the bodies have been sent to Civil Hospital for post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death. Police have begun detailed inquiries and recorded statements from relatives and local residents.

PI K.L. Gadhe of Pal Police Station said, “We received a PCR call in the morning about the deaths of three individuals in Bhatha village. Upon investigation, we found one elderly man and two women dead inside a closed room, where a generator was running. A strong odor was present when we opened the door.” DeshGujarat
