July 13, 2025
Vadodara – Late Saturday night (July 12), an intoxicated driver drove his vehicle through the Alkapuri road of Vadodara, putting pedestrians and motorists at risk. The incident occurred near the Vadodara Police Commissioner’s bungalow, where the driver stopped his car and argued with people present at the scene.
The driver, Kalubhai Jodhabhai Satiya, a resident of Bhavani Society in Kamrej Char Rasta, Surat, was arrested by Akota police. A case under prohibition laws and for reckless driving has been filed.
During questioning, Kalubhai told police he was returning from Ahmedabad and consumed four pegs of alcohol in the car. He admitted to drinking while driving.
The incident started near Alkapuri Garnala and continued towards Race Course Road. Witnesses said Kalubhai’s car moved unevenly, hit road dividers multiple times, and collided with other vehicles. Alert youths on bikes chased the car and recorded a video of the event, which has been shared widely.
Thanks to alert youths, the driver had to stop the car in front of the Police Commissioner’s bungalow and began speaking with people. When police arrived, Kalubhai was unable to exit the vehicle without help and fell several times while trying to stand.
Nikulbhai, a rickshaw driver who followed the car after a minor collision, said, “He hit the divider and was unable to drive properly. If the traffic signal had been off, more people could have been harmed.”
Kalubhai was taken into custody. Police are continuing their investigation to determine if more charges will be added. The incident has led to concerns about road safety and enforcement of prohibition laws in Gujarat.
