Centre denies news reports of Vande Bharat replacing Japanese bullet train on MAHSR project
July 15, 2025
New Delhi: The Central government on Monday dismissed media reports and social media claims suggesting that Japanese bullet trains will not be used on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project. Calling such claims “misleading”, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) clarified that no such decision has been taken by the Ministry of Railways.
“Some articles and social media posts claim that the Ministry of Railways has decided not to run the Japanese bullet train on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route. This claim is misleading,” PIB said in a post on X. It added that the project is progressing as per schedule and remains aligned with the original plan.
The clarification follows reports claiming that the government would opt for Vande Bharat trains instead of the Japanese high-speed Shinkansen on the 508-km corridor. Dismissing these reports, the government reiterated its commitment to Japanese collaboration.
“In the spirit of the strategic partnership between India and Japan, the Government of Japan has decided to introduce the next-generation E10 Shinkansen trains for this project,” the PIB noted. It further emphasized that the entire bullet train corridor is being built using Japanese Shinkansen technology, ensuring world-class standards in speed, safety, and reliability.
The MAHSR project is India’s first bullet train initiative and is being developed with both technical and financial support from the Government of Japan. DeshGujarat
