Female Home Guard suffers burns in acid attack by rickshaw driver in Gandhinagar

Gandhinagar: A shocking incident has come to light in Chhatral village of Kalol taluka, where five female Home Guards were attacked with acid by a rickshaw driver this morning. One female Home Guard, Bhavnaben, suffered burns on her face and chest and was rushed to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital. Other women also sustained minor burns from the splashes.

The incident allegedly occurred under the Chhatral overbridge, where Home Guard personnel were on traffic control duty. The altercation began when Home Guard Bhavnaben instructed a rickshaw driver, whose vehicle was parked improperly, to move it to the correct spot. Angered by this, the driver argued with her. Before the situation could escalate, other Home Guard jawans intervened and took the driver to the police station, where he was let off after a warning. The female Home Guard then returned to her duty post.

However, holding a grudge over the incident, the rickshaw driver returned about half an hour later, this time carrying acid. Without any warning, he launched an attack on the same Home Guard, throwing acid at her and others. Startled and frightened, the women managed to escape with only minor burns, while the assailant fled the scene.

Upon learning of the incident, other police personnel rushed to the spot and quickly shifted the injured woman to the hospital. Gandhinagar Superintendent of Police Ravi Teja Wasam Shetty confirmed that the acid used was a household cleaning agent and that the victim’s condition is stable.

Police have registered a case and launched a search to trace and apprehend the absconding rickshaw driver. Multiple teams have been formed to investigate the matter further. DeshGujarat
