Fishermen in Gujarat advised not to venture into sea until July 24

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat government today, in an official statement, advised fishermen not to venture into the sea until July 24 due to likely rough weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the state has recorded 53.39 percent of the total average rainfall for the current season. The highest rainfall was recorded in the Kutch region at 63.35 percent, followed by the South Gujarat region at 56.32 percent, the North Gujarat and Saurashtra regions at over 52 percent, and the East-Central Gujarat region at 50.06 percent.

During the monsoon, 141 talukas of the state received between 251 and 500 mm of rainfall, 55 talukas received between 501 and 1,000 mm, and 18 talukas recorded more than 1,000 mm (over 40 inches). In the last 24 hours alone, Mangrol and Jodiya in Junagadh district received more than three and a half inches of rainfall; Junagadh city and Junagadh taluka received over two and a half inches; and Vapi taluka received more than two inches. According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rainfall is also forecast today in some areas of North Gujarat, Central Gujarat, and South Gujarat.

As part of advance planning to address any possible emergencies during the monsoon, the state government has deployed 12 NDRF teams and 20 SDRF teams across various districts, with three additional NDRF teams kept in reserve. Additionally, apart from the 20 SDRF teams on duty, 13 more teams have been kept in reserve at the headquarters.

During this monsoon season, power supply was disrupted in a total of 14,515 villages due to heavy rains accompanied by strong winds. Power has been restored on a war footing in all these villages.
