Harsh Sanghavi Tasked with Reviving Surat Diamond Bourse; Holds Meeting
July 27, 2025
Surat: The Maharashtra Government is developing a 21.3-acre Diamond and Jewellery Park in the Mahape industrial area, in collaboration with the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), under a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) model.
As the existing Bharat Diamond Bourse in Mumbai is running out of capacity, the new India Jewellery Park is being constructed to accommodate 2,000 new offices and manufacturing units. If this project in Mumbai is completed on time, the future of the Surat-based Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) could be in limbo.
In this context, to activate the Surat Diamond Bourse to its full capacity, the responsibility has been assigned to the Minister of State for Industries, Harsh Sanghavi. Sanghavi held a meeting with the SDB committee as well as diamond traders from Mahidharpura in Surat.
He stated that the offices in Mahidharpura need to be shut down and that all traders must shift to SDB and open their offices there. Sanghavi also instructed the Mahidharpura-based diamond traders to complete all furniture-related work at the SDB by Aaso Sud Pancham.
Sanghavi is expected to hold another meeting with office bearers on Tuesday. DeshGujarat
