Sabarmati Riverfront lower promenade shuts for visitors

Ahmedabad: The Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (SRFDCL) has temporarily closed the lower promenade for visitors amid heavy water inflow from upstream. The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety, and the promenade will remain shut until further notice.

According to SRFDCL, the inflow of water into the Dharoi Dam increased significantly today. From 7:00 AM onwards, around 64,500 cusecs of water was released into the Sabarmati River. Given this inflow, 25 gates of the Vasna Barrage on the river have been opened, and water is being released downstream. Gates No. 5 to 24 have been opened by 6.0 feet, while Gates No. 25 to 28 have been opened for free flow (6.0 feet).

The Incharge Executive Engineer of AMC’s Flood Control Cell stated that the water level at the Vasna Barrage has risen above the danger mark. At 12:00 PM on Monday, the barrage water level stood at 127.40 feet, with a reservoir level of 36.85 meters. The inflow was recorded at 1,886.98 cusecs, while the outflow was 10,393 cusecs. Officials warned that the discharge may rise further, up to 30,635 cusecs, over the next 10–12 hours. Residents living along the riverbanks have been urged to remain cautious, as a White Signal (Alert) has been issued.

As per the Dharoi Dam control room report at 12:00 PM, the dam recorded an inflow of 2,792 cusecs and a discharge of 3,035 cusecs. Authorities have cautioned that water release into the Sabarmati River is likely to continue, and residents in low-lying riverbank areas are advised to stay alert until further updates. DeshGujarat
