Surat: Continuous discharge from Ukai, the largest dam in South Gujarat, has caused the weir-cum-causeway on the Tapi River to overflow. Water is flowing at 7.90 meters at the causeway connecting Katargam and Rander, with the river running full bank to bank. The danger mark at the causeway is 7 meters. Due to the overflow, the causeway has been closed to traffic, and security personnel have been deployed to prevent any untoward incidents.

As of 1 pm today, Ukai Dam’s water level stands at 102.33 m, above the mandated rule level of 102.11 m applicable before September 1st. The inflow into the dam is recorded at 92,316 cusecs, while 75,324 cusecs are being released into the Tapi River and 1,100 cusecs into the canal system. Six gates are open, with an opening of 1.52 m, to manage the inflow.

The catchment area of this second largest dam of Gujarat has received cumulative rainfall of 1,441.2 mm (around 56 inches), prompting controlled releases to maintain reservoir safety. The dam currently has a gross storage of 5,832.59 MCM, which is 78.67% of its total capacity. DeshGujarat
