Ahmedabad to get two more urban health centres, urban forest; Amit Shah to inaugurate

Ahmedabad: Union Home and Cooperation Minister and Gandhinagar MP Amit Shah will visit Ahmedabad on Sunday, August 31, 2025, to inaugurate a series of public welfare projects across the city.

As part of his schedule, Shah will inaugurate two newly constructed urban health centres—one in Chandlodiya ward, built at a cost of ₹3.76 crore, and another in Gota ward, developed with an outlay of ₹3.84 crore. Both centres will offer a wide range of free healthcare services, including general OPD consultations, Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY and ABHA card facilities, maternal and child healthcare, gynecology and pediatrics, immunization, family planning, laboratory testing, pharmacy access, mental health counselling, and telemedicine.

Later, Shah will inaugurate the redeveloped Sardar Baug near Lal Darwaja, renovated under a public-private partnership by the UN Mehta Foundation with an investment of around ₹12 crore. Spread over 26,100 sq. metres, the garden features 630 trees, 72,000 flowering plants, a landscaped entry gate, fountains, open gym facilities, yoga lawns, children’s play equipment, rose gardens, rainwater harvesting wells, walking and running tracks, drinking water points, attractive signage boards, and modern lighting. The redevelopment has transformed the historic garden into a vibrant urban green space.

Shah will also take part in tree plantation drives at Ranip and at the upcoming urban forest in Stadium ward, being developed by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. He will further interact with residents and society representatives during another plantation drive in Ghatlodia ward. In addition, Shah will visit the Nagar Devi Bhadrakali Mata Temple at Bhadra Fort for darshan.

Earlier this year, on World Environment Day, AMC launched the Mission Four Million Trees campaign, pledging to plant 40 lakh trees across Ahmedabad. Under this initiative, several large-scale plantation drives are being carried out.

In Gota ward (North-West Zone), 80 trees have already been planted at the plot of the new Ognaj Urban Health Centre, with a neem tree to be planted by Amit Shah during the event. At the Chandlodiya Urban Health Centre, 455 trees have been planted, including 400 using the Miyawaki method and 55 along the boundary, where Shah will also plant a sapling.

In Ranip ward (West Zone), a plantation drive will cover 12,000 indigenous trees—including neem, banyan, peepal, tamarind, jamun, amli, khijdo, umro, kanji, and karanj—across 4,192 sq. metres near Ahwadiya Lake. Similarly, in Stadium ward (West Zone), around 10,000 trees of native varieties will be planted over 5,422 sq. metres near Simandhar Shri Rang Society to develop a new urban forest.

In Ghatlodia ward (North-West Zone), a dense plantation drive will see 800 indigenous trees planted across 3,450 sq. metres near Chankyapuri Bridge, behind the water tank. DeshGujarat
