Road tax exemption

Under the vehicle scrapping policy, beneficiaries can receive up to a 25% road tax rebate for scrapping old non-transport vehicles and 15% for transport vehicles when registering new vehicles, upon submission of the Certificate of Deposit (COD).

Once a vehicle is scrapped, a COD is issued and the vehicle is deregistered. The certificate is valid nationwide, and owners can retain the registration number of the scrapped vehicle through the e-Vahan portal. The scrap value is calculated based on the vehicle’s weight, with payments determined according to current steel rates. The administration has also directed that new vehicles can only be purchased upon presenting the scrapping certificate of the old vehicle. DeshGujarat
