Registration for all private preschools begins in Gujarat
August 29, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat government has announced that the registration process for private preschools across the state will commence on Friday under newly revised rules. Existing preschools must complete their registration within three months, with the deadline set for the end of November.
Institutions are required to apply through a designated website and obtain a registration certificate. For new preschools, the registration process opens on September 1. Each applicant must pay a non-refundable online fee of Rs 10,000, and the registration form can only be submitted after payment and receipt generation. The certificate will be issued based on the institution’s self-declaration, making it crucial for applicants to review the prescribed norms and guidelines before applying.
The move aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The state government had introduced strict pre-school regulations in 2023, but opposition from associations and school operators resulted in very few registrations. In response to repeated representations, the education department revised the policy and issued a new resolution on July 19, offering certain relaxations for pre-school managements.
Under the revised rules, registration is now mandatory for all private preschools, aiming to control the unchecked growth of unregistered institutions in Gujarat. Schools already registered under the previous rules are not required to reapply but must follow the updated norms. Officials stated that the new registration system is designed to streamline pre-primary education, ensure quality standards, and enhance accountability among private preschool operators in the state.
