IMD Issues Fishermen Warning: Squally Weather Alert for Gujarat Coast
September 01, 2025
Gandhinagar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fishermen warning for the Gujarat coast for five days, from August 31 to September 4, due to active monsoon conditions. Squally weather is expected along both north and south Gujarat coasts, with strong winds and rough sea conditions.
Along the north Gujarat coast — including Jakhau, Mandvi, Mundra, Kandla, Navlakhi, Jamnagar, Salaya, Okha, and Porbandar — winds of 40–50 kmph gusting up to 60 kmph are likely on September 1. Conditions are expected to improve thereafter.
For the south Gujarat coast — covering Muldwarka, Veraval, Diu, Jafrabad, Pipavav, Victor, Bhavnagar, Alang, Bharuch, Dahej, Magdalla, and Daman — squally winds of 40–50 kmph gusting up to 60 kmph are forecast for September 1, with sea conditions expected to be high. The warning has also been issued for September 4 with similar wind speed predictions. Fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into these areas during this period.
Warnings have also been issued for the open sea and adjoining coasts. Strong winds reaching 45–55 kmph and gusting up to 65 kmph are expected in parts of the Arabian Sea, including areas near Somalia, Oman, and Yemen coasts, as well as over the east-central Arabian Sea during the forecast period.
The IMD has directed ports along the south Gujarat coast to hoist Local Cautionary Signal-III (LCS-III), covering Muldwarka, Veraval, Diu, Jafrabad, Pipavav, Victor, Bhavnagar, Alang, Bharuch, Dahej, Magdalla, and Daman.
While the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has not issued any high wave warnings, officials have advised fishermen and coastal residents to stay updated on alerts. DeshGujarat
