Ahmedabad Airport opens Integrated Cargo Terminal
September 05, 2025
Ahmedabad: Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in the city has unveiled new cargo handling facilities to strengthen Gujarat’s export logistics. The newly inaugurated state-of-the-art Integrated Cargo Terminal (ICT), spread over 20,000 square meters and capable of handling up to 200,000 metric tonnes annually, significantly scales up capacity and efficiency. With this, the existing cargo handling capacity has increased by 50,000 metric tonnes per year.
The modern ICT integrates world-class infrastructure with digital processes, aimed at enhancing efficiency and reliability in cargo movement, ensuring faster and more dependable processing at SVPIA. It will serve Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh as part of its vast catchment area. The facility upholds global security standards with extensive CCTV surveillance, controlled access, and advanced screening technology. Key innovations include Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) at truck gates, handheld terminal (HHT) operations, and barcode tracking for real-time visibility—setting new benchmarks in supply chain technology. A dedicated cold-chain zone has been established to preserve product integrity, while advanced features such as high dock counts, ball transfer decking, and automated equipment will boost throughput during peak periods.
Catering to Gujarat’s industrial ecosystem, ICT will handle a wide spectrum of cargo, including e-commerce, automotive parts, pharmaceuticals, valuables, and perishables. On the export front, engineering goods, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals remain among the top categories. The terminal is also designed to handle emerging sectors and high-value consignments such as temperature-controlled shipments, electronic components, oversized equipment, and fast-moving e-commerce parcels.
SVPIA plans to continue investing in infrastructure, digital systems, and multimodal connectivity to ensure faster, reliable, and cost-efficient logistics. This expansion will give a major boost to Gujarat’s industries. DeshGujarat
