Surat: Surat city was ranked the cleanest city in India in the Swachh Survekshan, and in this context, an event is planned to be hosted at the Indoor Stadium here to honor the city’s sanitation workers on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday on September 17. Extensive preparations are underway to recognize the dedicated efforts of the workers who keep Surat clean.
Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil has proposed setting up an institution and fund specifically for the sanitation workers of Surat. He also urged citizens to express their gratitude to sanitation workers during every festival and public celebration.
Amidst the event preparations, Minister C.R. Patil said that Surat was once considered a dirty city, with its image tarnished both nationally and internationally after the plague. However, last year Surat performed at par with Indore, and this year it scored five points higher than Indore, earning the title of the cleanest city in the country. He emphasized that the city’s 6,000 sanitation workers deserve heartfelt congratulations for this remarkable achievement.
During the event at the Indoor Stadium on the evening of September 17, all 6,000 sanitation workers will be present. Benefactors will also participate, and citizens will be invited to join the celebrations. Renowned singer Kailash Kher will perform at the event.
The minister added that no amount of gratitude would be enough for sanitation workers. Efforts are being made to establish an institution for them and create a substantial fund. Children of sanitation workers will be honored for academic achievements. Steps will also be taken to provide interest-free loans for housing and assistance in vehicle loans. DeshGujarat
