Western Railway’s Sabarmati – Sarkhej Doubling Project declared Special Railway Project

Ahmedabad: The Ministry of Railways has recently notified the “Doubling of Sabarmati D Cabin–Sarkhej Section (21 km) on the Bhavnagar Division of Western Railway” as a Special Railway Project.

According to the notification, the project will be executed in the state of Gujarat and involves the acquisition of land for laying an additional railway line parallel to the existing track.

Declaring the project a Special Railway Project gives the Central Government authority to accelerate the land acquisition process specifically for this initiative, which has been recognised as infrastructure of national importance and a public purpose development. This move streamlines land acquisition, reduces legal delays, and ensures timely execution of the railway expansion.

According to the Railway Budget for this year, a sum of ₹313 crore has been allocated for the project. The 21 km stretch between Sabarmati D Cabin and Sarkhej, located within Ahmedabad city limits, plays a crucial role in connecting passenger and freight trains to major routes of Western Railway.

The doubling of this section is expected to ease congestion, improve train operations, and increase capacity for passenger and freight services. Once completed, the project will enhance connectivity between Ahmedabad and other parts of Gujarat, contributing to faster and more reliable rail transport.
