Lower promenade of Sabarmati Riverfront shut for visitors
September 06, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) announced that the lower promenade of the Sabarmati Riverfront will remain closed for visitors on Saturday due to the expected surge of inflow into the river following increased water release from the Dharoi dam.
With heavy rainfall lashing the catchment areas of Dharoi dam and more showers forecast in the coming days, the state government began releasing 25,000 cusecs of water from the dam at 10 pm on Friday.
Officials said the executive engineer of Dharoi dam had informed the AMC commissioner and the collectors of Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Banaskantha, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Kheda, and Anand to take preventive measures to safeguard people in low-lying areas.
In his communication, the engineer noted that the water level of Dharoi dam stood at 618.48 feet at 8 pm on Friday and is expected to rise further with continued inflows. District collectors have been directed to activate their disaster management plans in response. DeshGujarat
